First World War Scotland Memorial At Frezenberg In Belgium. Memorial Commemorating The Scottish Units Which Fought In The Ypres Salient (€˜The Salient’) In On The Western Front In Belgium During The First World War. The Memorial Stands At Frezenberg, North Of Ypres, A Site Chosen Because The Scottish 9Th And 15Th Divisions Fought Near Here In The Autumn Of 1917. It Takes The Form Of A Celtic Cross Decorated With Celtic Knot Work. The Plaque Facing The Road Has A Quotation From The Declaration Of Arbroath (The 1320 Declaration Of Scottish Independence) Inscribed In Both English And Scots Gaelic. The Monument Also Commemorates The South African Troops Who Served In The Scottish 9Th Division.
