Costus pictus (Chamaecostus cuspidatus), also known as Insulin plant, fiery costus or spiral flag, is a species of herbaceous plant in the family Costaceae. It is native to eastern Brazil. In India, it is known as insulin plant for its purported anti-diabetic properties. It has large fleshy looking leaves and the undersides of these large, smooth, dark green leaves. The flowers are orange or yellow in color. Flowering occurs during the warm months.
