Lake Billy Chinook Was Formed By The 1964 Construction Of Round Butte Hydroelectric Dam On The Deschutes River Downstream From Its Confluence With The Crooked And Metolius Rivers, Within A 400 Foot Deep Canyon Cut Through Volcanic Basalt Layers.
