The Mushroom Coral Pipefish (Siokunichthys nigrolineatus) is a small pipefish species that belongs the fish family Syngnathidae which includes ‘Seahorses, Seadragons, Pipefish and Pipehorses’. There are on 5 small species known to occur in the genus Siokunichthys. This species can be found occurring in the warm tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region and it is known to occur from Southern Indonesia and Papua New Guinea to the Philippines. This species can be found living amongst the tentacles of mushroom corals such as Heliofungia actiniformes which looks very similar to an anemone. Divers often confuse this pipefish as a worm species. The pipefish occur in small groups living amongst the tentacles of the coral in depths of 10 to 20 metres.
