One of the most outstanding visits to make in the vicinity of the Umia River as it passes through the upper area of ​​the Salnés region is that of the Sugar Factory located in the Concello de Portas. It is an old completely rehabilitated in which the walls of the factory remain well preserved, as well as its intact chimney of about 60m high. Precisely the chimney is the main attraction of this small municipality, with an area of ​​22 square km and made up of some 3,000 residents, since today it has become the best panoramic viewpoint in the entire Salnés valley. There is an elevator to reach its elevated part or you can use the numerous spiral stairs, which almost vertically take you to the top of the most outstanding icon of this historic Portas enclosure.
