The Russian chapel on the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt, near Wedding Tower, Germany. Russian church, erected 1897 - 1899 in midst of the Nouveau-Art-Area Mathildenhöhe on behalf of the ancient Tsar Nicholas II. As husband of Tsarina Alexandra he was son in law of the Grand Duke of Hessen. During his visits in Darmstadt he wanted a private place for worship according Orthodox rules. The building is designed in the style of Russian churches in 16.Century.Renovated in 2005 –2008.
